If you’re Bahamian you know that little medley well and if you’re not, that melody was one I grew up with and pretty much every little girl on the island.
The melody was one that celebrated a little brown girl in a ring, surrounded by her friends and as I get older, I appreciate this so much more. In a world where the standard of beauty is ever changing and women are bombarded with so many unrealistic standards to try to keep up, it is my opinion that it is important to celebrate the brown girl and let her know how beautiful she is.
We have to continue to celebrate Brown Girls, Black Women and talk about the things that make us beautiful and unique. Join me, and all the women featured here as we celebrate our pigmentation, creativity, intelligence and so much more!
